Sybase Classic Presented by Lincoln Mercury

The Sybase Classic Presented by Lincoln Mercury was first played in 1990. It is one of the oldest running tournaments on the LPGA Tour. The Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, New York has been hosting it since 1990. During that time the tournament was known as the JAL Big Apple Classic presented by GOLF Magazine. After many name changes, the tournament came to be known as the Sybase Classic Presented by Lincoln Mercury from 2004. Here is a list of names by which this championship has been known over the years.

The 2006 Sybase Classic Presented by Lincoln Mercury was shortened from the regular 72-hole match play to 54 holes due to rains. It was a close battle between Lorena Ochoa and Kyeong Bae but ultimately Ochoa prevailed over her opponent by two strokes. The tournament, held in the third week of May, offers a total prize money of $ .3 million. Alon with the winner’s trophy, Ochoa also received $ 195,000 in prize money.

Betsy King, Annika Sorenstam and Sherri Steinhauer have all the Sybase Classic Presented by Lincoln Mercury twice each. Betsy had won for the first time in 1990, when it was first played. Here is a list of winners who have won here since it became part of the LPGA Tour.
