Samsung World Championship
The Samsung World Championship is the only tournament where players are only can play only through invitations. When it was started in 1980, the field comprised of only 12 players. However, it was increased to 20 in 1999. Since the beginning the tournament has been a part of the LPGA Tour. The meet is not played on any particular golf course. Due to sponsorship changes, the tournament has been renamed many times. Here is a list of names by which it has been known over the years.

For the second time this season, Lorena Ochoa put paid to Annika Sorenstam's hat trick chance by clinching the 2006 Samsung World Championship. Lorena played a superb final round to win by two strokes. The tournament purse was $ 875,000 with the winner getting $ 218,750. The meet was held in the middle of October.

Annika Sorenstam has won the Samsung World Championship five times, which is the highest for any golfer. Beth Daniel and Juli Inkster have won it thrice each while Jo Ann Carner has two titles to his credit. Here is a list of winners who have won here since it became part of the LPGA Tour.
