McDonald's LPGA Championship Presented by Coca-Cola
The McDonald's LPGA Championship Presented by Coca-Cola is the second of the four major tournaments on the LPGA Tour . However, the Ladies European Tour does not consider it as a major. It is also the second oldest tournament in the women's golf. The US Women's Open is the oldest one. Barring 2005, the tournament only invites professional players. This is in sharp contrast to the other majors where both professional and amateur players are invited. The authorities had made that exception in 2005 so that Michelle Wie can participate.
The DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware has hosted this meet for many years but from 2005 the McDonald's LPGA Championship Presented by Coca-Cola is held at the Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Maryland.
Seon Hwa Lee defeated Jeong Jang, Sherri Steinhauer and Annika Sorenstam, all tied for the second spot, to clinch the 2006 McDonald's LPGA Championship Presented by Coca-Cola. Sorenstam was leading after the first three rounds but she played n erratic final to allow the others to catch up with her. Lee received $ 225,000 from the tournament purse of $ 1.4 million. The meet was held in the first week of June. The 2007 McDonald's LPGA Championship will be held in Bulle Rock GC, from 7 - 10 June.
