The WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship is an annual straight knockout match play tournament for 64 players being held in February. Places are awarded to the top 64 golfers in the official world golf rankings and to alternates in ranking order as required to fill up the field. The final match is played over 36 holes while all the other matches, including the semi-finals and the third-place playoff, comprise of 18 holes. From 2007, the event will be held at the Gallery Golf Club in Dove Mountain, Tucson, Arizona. It is a relatively new tournament with the first edition being held at the La Costa Resort and Spa in California in 1999.
In 2006, the total prize money for the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship was $7,500,000 with $1,300,000 going to the winner. The winner also received the Walter Hagen Cup. Geoff Ogilvy is the reigning champion.
