The Volvo Masters is the last tournament on the Official Money List of the European Tour . Barring from 1997 to 2001, the tournament has been played at the famous Valderrama Golf Club in Spain. It is a prestigious tournament on the tour and is played a week before the Tour Championship, the last event on the US PGA Tour Money List. The top 60 players on the European Tour are invited to play here.
The 2006 Volvo Masters had a total prize purse of € 4million. Jeev Milkha Singh followed up his win at the Volvo China Open with a victory here. He defeated Luke Donald by one stroke to take the winner's trophy as well as the cheque of € 6,66,660.
Past Winners
Nick Faldo won the inaugural Volvo Masters in 1988. It is probably the only tournament where there was a joint winner. In 2002, Colin Montgomerie and Bernhard Langer were tied when for the top spot when play was stopped for bad light. The players decided to share the spoils.
