Royal Trophy

The Royal Trophy is only one year old and is a team event. Teams from Europe and Asia compete against each other three different categories. Each team consists of eight members and the tournament is co-sanctioned by the European Tour , Asian Tour and the Japanese Tour. It is played in the Ryder Cup format with teams competing in foursomes, four-ball and singles events.

  • Foursome: It is a competition between two teams of two golfers. The team members take alternate shots throughout the match with the same ball.
  • Fourball: Here all the four players play with their own balls throughout the round rather than alternating shots. Each hole is won by the golfer who has the lowest score adding to the team's score.
  • Singles: It is a direct competition between two golfers.

The 2006 Royal Trophy was won by Europe by none points to seven. They received a trophy, which was donated by the King of Thailand had donated, and a sum of $1 million in prize money. The Asians received $500,000.

Past Winners

Since the Royal Trophy was held for the first time this year we do not have any previous champions. Seve Ballesteros had led the Europeans while the Asian team was led by Masahiro Kuramoto.

The Royal Trophy is the only team competition on the tour. As we continue on this tour we will learn about the other tournaments in the European Tour .
