The British Masters , as it was originally called when it was started way back in 1946, will now be played in September from 2007. It was so done otherwise it would have clashed with The Players Championship on the US PGA Tour, which has been moved to May. It has been part of the European Tour since 1972. In 1984 the tournament was not held for various reasons. The meet is now called Quinn Direct British Masters after its name was changed many times over the years.
