The Singapore Masters was first played in 2001. It was then called the Caltex Singapore Masters and came to be known by its present name since 2006. The meet is co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the Asian Tour. It was here that Arjun Atwal became the first Indian to win at the European Tour . His feat was repeated the following year when Zhang Lian-Wei did it for his country.
The 2006 OSIM Singapore Masters had a prize money of $ 1 million which is very small compared other tournaments on the tour. Mardan Mamat won the meet, pocketing € 1,38,560. by one stroke over Padraig Harrington. Besides the trophy, he also won the winner's cheque of €6,66,660.
