The Omega European Masters is the meet where Baldovino Dassu achieved the feat of scoring 60 over 18 holes, thus becoming the first player in the European circuit to do so. The tournament was born s the Swiss masters but came its name was changed a few times due to various reasons. Since 1992, it is known by its present name. It has been associated with the Crans-Sur-Sierre Golf Club in Valais since 1971. This course also hosts the Swiss Open.

The 2006 event was a very big crowd puller. Teenage female golf prodigy Michelle Wie was invited to play here but unfortunately she finished last. Nevertheless, the crowd enjoyed her presence here, which was her first attempt at the European Tour . The prize purse for the meet was € 2 million. Bradley Dredge won it hands down with an eight-shot victory over Francesco Molinari and Marcel Siem, who came joint second. Dredge pocketed a cool € 33,33,330 for his efforts.
