The Johnnie Walker Classic is played in at various courses in the Asia Pacific region. It was fist played in Hong Kong in 1990 and was called Johnnie Walker Asian Classic. It became part of the European Tour in 1992 and was the first to become in East Asia. From 1993, the word Asian was removed from the title. From 2005, the tournament is co-sanctioned by three tours: the European Tour , the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour of
Australasia . This year it was held in February during the first leg of the tour's Asian sojourn.
The field comprises of 60 European Tour players, 60 Asian Tour players, 28 PGA Tour of Australasia players and eight invitees of the organizers. Thought he prize money it offers is large by Asian standards it is considered meager compared to European events. Still it has been able to attract some of the top golfers in the world due to the appearance money they give to them.
Kevin Stadler of the US won the 2006 Johnnie Walker Classic , beating Aussie Nicksaw Paul Casey by two strokes. He was awarded the winner's cheque of € 3,05,468.
