The Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles is played at one of the most well known golf resorts in Scotland, the Gleneagles Hotel. Besides The Open Championship, which is mostly played in Scotland, two other events of the European Tour are held in this country. They are the Scottish Open and the Dunhill Links Championship . The first edition was held in 1999 and was then called Scottish PGA Championship . The tournament's name has been changed five times but its sponsor has remained the same.

Till 2004 the tournament was held at the Monoarch's Course but since 2005 it is played at the PGA Centenary Course. The course has been designed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus and it will also host the 2014 Ryder Cup.
The 2006 Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles saw Paul Casey walk away with the winner's trophy. He got the better of Soren Hansen by one stroke only and also received prize money of £3, 41,667. The tournament was held from 22-25 June and had a total tournament purse of £ 1,400,000.
