The Deutsche Bank Players Championship of Europe is a strokeplay event played over 72 holes. It is played in Germany in either of these two courses: the Gut Kaden or the Golf Club St Len Rotone. It has been part of the European Tour since 1992, when it was first played. It was first known as the Honda Open and is known by its present name since 2005. The prize money offered ranks among the top on the continent. The tournament was mired in controversy because of the huge appearance money it paid to Tiger Woods for playing here. Germany hosts two tournaments on the European Tour calendar, the other being the BMW Championship .
The 2006 Deutsche Bank Players Championship of Europe was won by Robert karlsson, who defeated Charl Schwartzel by four strokes. He received € 6,00,000 out of a total prize money of €3.6 million.
