The BMW Championship is played at the West Course of the Wentworth Club in England. It has been part of the European Tour since 1972, when the tour was born. The tournament was first played in 1955 under the name British PGA Championship. Due to change in sponsors its name has been changed many times. PGA was dropped from its name for the first time in 2005. The meet is better known as the Volvo PGA Championship as Volvo was the sponsors for many years.

The 2006 BMW Championship had a prize purse of €4,250,000 and was held from 25-28 May. David Howell comprehensively won the title beating Simon Khan by five strokes. He received a cheque of €7,08,330.The 2007 BMW Championship will be held in Wentworth Club, England from 24 - 27 May.
