The Abu Dhabi Golf Championship was held at the picturesque Abu Dhabi Golf Club by Sheraton. The 2006 event was its inaugural year and it is also part of the European Tour . In recent years, the tour has planned to include Asia in its itinerary and going by that it has become the third tournament to be hosted in the Gulf region alone. The other two are Dubai Desert Classic and Qatar Masters .
The inaugural Abu Dhabi Golf Championship was held from 19-22 January, 2006 had total prize money of $2 million. American Chris Di Marco pipped Henrik Stenson by one stroke to clinch the title. Di Marco received $2, 75,411 for his efforts. For the 2007 season the meet has been pushed back by one day and will be hold from 18-23 January.
The Dhabi Golf Championship was born in 2006 and in its first year itself it became part of the European Tour . As we continue on this tour we will learn about the other tournaments in the European Tour .
