The Greater Kansas City Golf Classic is one of the newer tournaments on the Champions Tour roster. It was first played in 2003 under the name of Bayer Advantage Celebrity Pro-Am at the Nicklaus Golf Club at Lions Gate. In its brief history the name of the tournament has been changed on three occasions due to change in sponsors.

Dana Quigley captured the 2006 Greater Kansas City Golf Classic with a three-stroke victory over David Edwards. Out of the tournament's total prize purse of $1.65 million, he received $248,000.
