The Charles Schwab Cup Championship is the final stop on the Champions Tour . Though another three tournaments are there on the roster, the money won there does not count in the Official Money List of the tour. It was first played in 1990 as the New York Life Champions. After that till 2002, the name of the tournament was changed almost every year due to change in sponsors. The meet got its present name in 2003. Qualifying for this tournament is slightly different in respect to other ones. Here invitation is sent to the top 30 players on the money list.

The 2006 Charles Schwab Cup Championship was won by Jim Thorpe with a two-stroke victory over Tom Kite. He received $440,000 in prize money. The tournament was held at the Sonoma Golf Course and had a prize fund of $2.5 million.
