Profile: Lee Westwood was a champion player in school. He was associated with cricket; football and rugby till the age of 13. From this time he started playing golf and within the next two years won the junior championship of Nottinghamshire. He began to grow in confidence and in 1993 won the British Youth Championship. Hr also turned professional in the same year at the age of 20.

He started playing in the European Tour and his first title after turning pro in 1996. He won the Volvo Scandinavian Masters on the European Tour and followed it up with a victory at the Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo Masters in Japan. During this period, he was at his prime winning at least four tournaments every year till 2000.

In 2000, he won seven tournaments which saw him catapult into the top 10 of world rankings. He went upto as high as the fourth spot. However, he has failed to impress anybody at the masters. His best finish till date was at the 2004 Open Championship, where he finished fourth.

Lee is married to Laurae Coltart, sister of Andrew Coltart (another professional golfer), and has two kids. After the birth of his first child in 2001, he took a long break from the game. He came back in 2003 and won the BMW International Open. Since 2004 he has not been able to win any tournament.
