Profile: Geoff Ogilvy was born in Adelaide, Australia in 1977. As a kid he grew up taking a liking for this sport. After turning professional in 1998, he played at the European Tour Qualifying School. He immediately qualified for the tour and played there in the following two seasons. However, the biggest win of his career came later in 2006 when he won the US Open. It was his first major win. He had to fend off stalwarts like Phil Mickelson, Colin Montgomerie and Jim Furyk. Luck was also on his side as he played some remarkable shots towards the end to snatch the lead from Mickelson. By winning the US Open, he became the first Australian since 1995 to win a men's major title. His good show also propelled his ranking to the top ten for the first time in his career. He even improved his ranking to No. 7 in the world, according to the Official World Golf rankings. Currently he is the 10 th ranked player in the world.
