The game of golf was first played in Scotland in the fifteenth century. In those days shepherds used to hit stones into rabbit holes with their wooden crooks near St Andrews. Gradually as time went by, the game became more modernized and its popularity soared immensely. The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers in Edinburgh, Scotland, is often recognized as the first organized golf club. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, founded in 1754, went about the task of formulating rules for the game and it was they who set the standard norm of 18 holes per round.
There are two types of golf courses in the world. Those are private golf courses and public golf courses. In order to play at the private courses you will have to a member of that particular golf club but in case of public courses it is open for all. One just has to pay a certain amount of fee to gain access to the greens.
A golf course consists of fairways, greens, bunkers, hazards of various nature and is mostly very picturesque. If you are an avid golf lover you are bound to have a good time tackling all these hazards on your way to the greens.
