Woodhall Spa
The Woodhall Spa Golf Club is located at Lincolnshire, England. The club has got two courses: the Bracken Course and the famous Hotchkin Course .
History of the course
The Hotchkin Course was designed by Harry Vardon and was opened for play in1905. The course was further modified by Harry Colt before World War I. The owner of the course, Colonel SV Hotchkin, redesigned the course in the 1920s and since then it has evolved in that layout.
It is an absolutely delightful experience to play here. Golf is played round the year and the course is set amidst pine, birch and broom trees. You have to be very careful while taking your shot as the bunkers, which are found throughout the course, are very deep and cavernous.
The English Golf Union bought the Woodhall Spa Golf Club in 1995 and commissioned the building of the Bracken Course.
Course Trivia
- The Hotchkin Course has been used for a number of national and international amateur tournaments.
- The par-5 18 th hole is well known and many results have been decided on this hole. If you are accurate while driving the ball you stand a good chance of having a low score but if you err a bit the bunkers will come into play, thus destroying your score.
