TPC at Sawgrass
The TPC at Sawgrass is a famous golf course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. It has two courses: the Valley Course and the more famous Stadium Course.
History of the course
The Stadium Course at The TPC at Sawgrass was designed by famous modern day golf course architects Pete and Alice Dye. It has been named so because here the fans sit on stands, made of grass, like in any other sport.
The course was built on 415 acres of swampland. The fairways are narrow and lined with hazards. Waste bunkers, scores of pot bunkers, marshes, craters and mounds constitute these hazards. These hazards are strategically placed so that if you err a little in your shot they will come into play. The greens are lightning quick and very hard. The palm trees are short obstructing your view. All in all, the course was one of the toughest in the world.
The course went through minor modifications, which included removal of several bunker, after the players complained about it. The course is currently going through a makeover and will be ready for play in November, 2006.
