Scioto Golf Course
The 18-hole Scioto Course at the Scioto Country Club is located in Columbus, Ohio.
History of the course
The Scioto Golf Course was designed by Donald Ross in 1912 and was opened in 1914.
Ross used all the natural contours on the course while designing it. The course winds through rolling-meadows, lakes and wooded areas. There are as many as 12 lakes in this facility. The approaches to the greens are a little sloping while the greens are nestled in the terrain.
Course Trivia
- The Scioto Golf Course has hosted the US Open, one of the four majors, in 1926.
- It has also hosted The PGA Championship in 1950 and a host of other international meets.
Though the Scioto Country Club has hosted a number of international meets over the years, it lags behind at 59 th spot, according to Golf Digest magazine's list of 100 top golf courses in the US in 2005. As we continue on this tour we will learn about the other top-100 golf courses in the world.
