Royal Liverpool
Located at Merseyside in North West England , the Royal Liverpool Golf Club is the second oldest seaside links club in England . Though the club is named after Liverpool city, Hoylake has always been its home.
History of the course
The Liverpool Golf Club was formed in 1861. The site for the course was previously a race-course and George Morris designed a nine-hole course here. Three holes were added shortly and in 1971 the course was extended to a fully functional 18-hole course. A year later the royal charter was granted to them by Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and the club came to be known as Royal Liverpool Golf Club . Over the years Harry Colt and Donald Steel have made alterations to the course.
The course is bordered by houses on three sides while the Dees Estuary encircles from the fourth side. The course has been altered slightly before the 2006 British Open so that the 16 th hole became the last hole and the 17 th and 18 th the first and second respectively.
