Portmarnock
Located in Dublin,Ireland , the Portmarnock golf club was formed in 1984 and is one of the oldest clubs in the world.
History of the course
The land on which the Partmarnock Golf Course was built belonged to John Jameson, who used it as his private course from around 1850. A proper nine-hole course was built in 1894 and within two years it was extended to the standard 18 holes. The course was designed by a Scottish broker, William Pickeman, who first saw the course in 1893.
The Portmarnock is a natural links course with water on three sides. As a result, the wind plays a vital part in your selection of golf clubs. Each hole is in a different direction as the course is laid out in a loop of nine holes. While putting you will have to be extra cautious as the greens are lightning fast.
The course offers a breathtaking view as you wind your way through it. There is an island called Ireland's Eye where different species of seabirds best. The Hill of Houth as well as the Mountains of Mourne is also visible from here.
