Pinehurst (No. 2)
Pinehurst (No. 2) golf course, located in Pinehurst, North Carolina, has played host to a number of prestigious tournaments, including the US Open.
History of the course
The Pinehurst (No. 2) golf course is part of the 5,500-acre Pinehurst Resort. In total there are eight golf courses in the resort of which the No. 2 course is the best. Donald Ross designed the course which was opened for use in 1907.
The course is designed in a simple way. The fairways, meander through the broad corridors of pine trees, are wide enough for the golfer to aim on any side depending on the location of the hole for the day. The greens average 5,500 square feet which is the standard accepted norm. The greens are mostly inverted saucers, reduced in practical size by false fronts and tricky slopes off into bunkers and hollows. The course was renovated in 1996.
