Olympic (Lake)
The 18-hole Lake Course at the Olympic Golf Club is located in Daly City, near San Francisco in California .
History of the course
Founded in 1860, the Olympic Club is the oldest athletic club in the US . The Lakeside Course originally belonged to the Lakeside Country Club but it had to sell it off for financial reasons. It was designed by Wilfrid A Reid and Robert Trent Jones and was opened for play in 1924.
The course has been built on a barren strip of land on a hill. The hill separates the Pacific Ocean and the largest freshwater in San Francisco, Lake Merced. It is said that the Lake Course got its name from this lake.
A unique feature about the course is that there is only one bunker in this 6,842-yard course. Another interesting factor is that there is not a single water hazard to be found here though the name suggests otherwise.
Putting is a little difficult as all the holes are on a downward slope. Also the fairways are also sloping. Besides the Lake Course the Olympic Golf Club has two more course: the Ocean Course and the Cliffs Course.
