New South Wales
The New South Wales is one of the best as well as the toughest courses in Australia. It is located in the La Perouse area.
History of the course
Dr Alister Mackenzie, who designed a number of famous courses across the world, designed the New South Wales course in 1928. He was assisted in his efforts by another well known golf course architect Eric Apperly. He ensured that Mackenzie's dream became a reality and was also instrumental for the bunkering on the course.
Though it is not a links course it is styled very much like it. As the course is set on a cliff beside the ocean, the wind blows in from all directions. The course has four par-three holes and is designed in such a way that each of them is in a different direction.
Course Trivia
- The par-three sixth hole at the New South Wales course can damage your scorecard severely. The tee is set on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Pacific Ocean. As the winds play havoc you will have to aim your shot towards the ocean so that the ball lands on the green.
- The last six holes will offer you an immense experience. The 13 th and 14 th holes are classic cliff-top doglegs, the 15 th is an up-hill shot, another dogleg in the 16 th hole, a normal 17 th hole and the final 18 th hole which is a par-five hole.
- Till date very few tournaments have been held here.
