Muirfield Village
Located in Dublin, Ohio, the 18-hole Muirfield Village golf course is designed by golf Hall of Famer Jack Nicklaus.
History of the course
Nicklaus is the man who is instrumental in the creation of the Muirfield Village golf course. He was always fond of the Muirfield course in Scotland and when he won The Open Championship there in 1966 he made up his mind to build a course based on it at his hometown.
Thus 220 acres of land were acquired in 1966 itself but construction did not start till 1972. During the construction of the course no expense was spared. The course is full of bunkers and water hazards while the fairways are narrow and require pin-point accuracy. There are a total of 75 bunkers and the water hazards come into play on as many as 11 holes. The course was opened for play on Memorial Day, i.e., 27 May, 1974.
