Lahinch
The Lahinch Golf Club is located in Lahinch, Ireland on the shores of the sea.
History of the course
The Lahinch Golf Club was founded in 1883. Some soldiers from a Scottish regiment with the help of local people found the site on which the course stands. Three locals initially designed the 18-hole course and in 1894 Old Tom Morris was appointed to design the course properly. Morris used the terrain to great effect and even commented that he had not seen a better natural course than this one.
Dr Alister Mackenzie, another well known golf course architect, redesigned the course in 1927 and moved many holes to the coast and bringing more into play the high dunes and quirky contours of the land . But the in 1935 the club authorities brought in John Burke to flatten the greens as they considered the course too tough for an average golfer. However, during its restoration in 1999, Martin Hawtree again introduced the features that Mackenzie had used.
