Bandon Dunes
The Bandon Dunes Resort offers two golf courses to its boarders: the famous Pacific Dunes and the lesser known Bandon Dunes. The resort is located in Bandon, Oregon , with the Pacific Ocean in the backdrop.
History of the course
The Bandon Dunes Golf Course was opened in 1999 and was designed by a newcomer, David McLay Kidd, A Scottsman. He did an excellent job while designing the course as the holes are routed at compass points which has been able to cut down the effect of wind. The course has a rugged look with large, fast greens. One-third of the course is set on the Pacific Ocean coastline giving you a fantastic view of the surroundings.
It is a par-72 course and measures about 6,750 yards from end to end. The course bears a very close resemble to the links courses of Scotland , the birthplace of golf.
Course Trivia
- The signature hole of the Bandon Dunes course is the 16 th hole. This 345-yard par-four hole is split by a gorge, which makes it unique.
While offering a stunning view of the ocean, the Bandon Dunes golf course is very highly rated by Golf Digest magazine. It occupies the 28 th spot in the magazine's list of 100 top golf courses in the US in 2005. As we continue on this tour we will learn about the other top-100 golf courses in the world.
