Real Club de Golf Puerta de Hierro (Arriba course) - Spain
History of the Course:
The Real Club de Golf Puerta de Hierro -Arriba course is located in the scenic region of Avda de Miraflores, in Madrid, Spain.
The prestigious Real Club de la Puerta de Hierro was established in Madrid in 1895. The traditional golf club presently consists of 36-holes of enticing golf, through its magnificent 18-hole Old course- the Arriba Course and the superb 18-hole new course- the Abaja Course.
The Real Club de Golf Puerta de Hierro -Arriba course was created in 1904, and the architects accredited to designing the spectacular course are Tom Simpson and John D. Harris. The course had been redesigned over the years, with recent modifications done to it in 2001, by architect Kyle Phillips.
The 6,972 yards, par 72 Arriba Course of the Real Club de la Puerta de Hierro, is subtly crafted amidst a wooded forest region, and similar to the wooded parkland style layout courses. The 18-holes wind their way around the mature oak trees and undulating terrain of the course. The sloping greens are well-conditioned, with vast fairways bounded by stands of trees; cleverly-positioned bunkers, water hazards as well as the native forest vegetation, all combine to make this course a formidable golfing challenge.
The tranquil forests settings also allow for a calm and peaceful relaxation haven along with golf in the woods, away from the bustling city life of the lively Madrid city.
The Clubhouse of the Real Club de la Puerta de Hierro offers various facilities including bar, restaurant, sauna, as well as wonderful views of the beautiful course.
