Das Brandenburg Sporting Club Berlin Scharmutzelsee - Germany
History of the Course:
The Das Brandenburg Sporting Club Berlin Scharmutzelsee is set very near to Berlin, and is located in the beautiful Bad Sarrow region, surrounding the picturesque Lake Scharmutzelsee, in the serene countryside of Brandenburg, Germany.
The 63 hole Das Brandenburg Sporting Club Berlin course consists of three 18 hole, magnificently designed courses created by some of the world's famous golfers. Namely –
its Nick Faldo designed, legendary Championship Course,
its Arnold Palmer designed, Tournament Course,
the Stan Eby Course,
And, a 9-hole, Jake McEwan Course.
The 18-hole, Arnold Palmer Tournament Course of the Das Brandenburg Sporting Club Berlin was built in 1995. The 6104 metres, Par 72 , high standard, American styled layout consists of wide undulating, tree-lined fairways and large rolling greens. While its front nine holes are through the hilly landscape with bunkers, the back nines move through the pine wooded area dotted with small brooks-a perfect contrast due to the ingenuity of Palmer's creation, unique in Europe.
The Championship, 18-hole Nick Faldo course was created in 1997, and is the most famous amongst the Das Brandenburg Sporting Club Berlin Scharmutzelsee courses. This beautiful Links style creation is reminiscent to the coastal Scottish and English courses and is the only Faldo-designed course in all of Europe. Its 6,477 metres layout consists of sloping quick greens, narrow perfect fairways speckled with “133” links bunkers and undulating terrain, proving to be a formidable challenge and a wonderful links experience, here in Germany.
The third 18-hole course of the Das Brandenburg Sporting Club Berlin is the Stan Eby course, created recently in 2001. Its par 71 layout consists of firm and fast greens with adequate obstacles of sand traps, roughs and water hazards, to make this a testing course. However, it is not very difficult only requiring accuracy to overcome the tricky greens, and is suitable for players with higher handicaps.
This resort club also consists of a 9-hole Jake McEwan course which consists of a tricky par3 layout. Designed by the Club's Head Greenkeeper, the course is a test for all standards of golfers, beginners, as well as to better one's short play, on this testing course.
The Clubhouse of the Das Brandenburg Sporting Club Berlin Scharmutzelsee, set near the last hole of the Palmer course, offers golfers with various services including dining at its Greenside restaurant, spectacular views of the courses and the Brandenburg countryside as well as a relaxation joint, after a tiring day of golf!
