The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid - Black Course is a magnificent golf course and regarded one of Spain's oldest and finest golf clubs.
History of the Course:
The prestigious Club de Campo Villa de Madrid - Black Course is located in the picturesque region of Carretera de Castilla of Madrid, Spain.
The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid was formed years back in 1929, and is today one' of Continental Europe's largest courses, consisting of two fabulous 18-hole courses- the masterpiece Black Course (or Negro Course) and the Amarillo Course (or Yellow Course) designed by Severiano Ballesteros.
Both courses are subtly crafted amidst the beautiful countryside with a mixed parkland style layout. The course winds their way through the hills and surrounding forests of aged pine and oak trees.
The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid - Black Course was designed by famous Spanish golf architect, Javier Arana in 1984. The 6,045 metres, par 71, Black Course consists of a splendid parkland layout; the elevated greens are well-trimmed and guarded, with its wide fairways are dotted with numerous sand bunkers and stands of trees, forming the obstacles to the challenging Arana course.
The grand clubhouse of the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid offers various facilities including restaurant, bar, swimming pool, sauna, along with fantastic views of the beautiful course and the breath-taking Madrid skyline.
Course Trivia:
- The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid - Black Course, has been host to numerous golf events, including the prestigious PGA European Tour- the Madrid Open Championship on many occasions; the Open de Espana and the Copa de Europa.
- The recent 2001 Madrid Open Championships at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid - Black Course, was won by Retief Goosen.
- The various golf facilities offered at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid Course includes driving range, putting greens, bunkers and a Pro-shop.
- Amongst the other activities at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid sports center (Madrid Country Club), include tennis, gym, football, equestrian, horse-riding, pigeon shooting, paddling and squash. Also famous is its car racing at the Jarama track nearby.
