History of the Course:
The National Golf Club- Ocean Course is located on a stunning coastal stretch of dune land on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula's at Cape Schanck. It is one of the three amazing courses on the 54 hole, National Golf Club layout.
The National Golf Club- Ocean Course was designed by the world famous team of Peter Thomson, Michael Wolveridge & Ross Perrett and was opened for play on December 26, 2000.
The 6552 metres, par 72 course of The National- Ocean course consists of a spectacular links style course created amidst endless coastal sand hills and dune valleys of Cape Schanck's rugged terrain.

The greens on the course are well crafted and offer a testing putting challenge while its fairways are of a special Bermuda strain for consistency and smoothness, with native grasses bounding them. The natural vegetation retained to border the greens naturally along with the glorious coastal landscape, make this course a heavenly golfing experience!
The National Clubhouse stands majestically, providing a complete view of the spectacular courses below; also a source of refreshment and recreation, after a challenging day of golf.
Course Trivia:
- The National (Ocean Course) is part of the tri-course series at The National Golf Club, which provide three distinct golfing challenges (Old Course, Moonah Course and Ocean Course). These three courses have been designed by 3 of the world's famous golf architects -Robert Trent Jones Jr., Greg Norman and Peter Thomson respectively.
- The National Golf Club-Ocean Course contains a number of short par 4 holes combined with tougher holes as well like its 400 metre, 18th hole, that requires a wind facing, slightly uphill approach shot to the greens, well guarded by bunkers.
- The Cape Schanck winds blowing through the National- Ocean Course constantly blow hard from opposite directions in summer and winter.
- The National Golf Club- Ocean Course includes features such as its large sand quarry and beautiful green site at the 4th hole and the punchbowl 15th green. Although located closely to one another, each of the three National Club courses offer the golfer a range of memorable golfing experiences, each course being wonderfully original and equally challenging.
The National Golf Club (Ocean Course) is a private golf course. Guests must be accompanied by a member.
As per The Australian Top 100 Golf Courses (2006 rankings), The National Golf Club -Ocean Course has been ranked as No. 46.
