Golf Club is another magnificent golf course of Tasmania which is famous for its challenging course and natural beauty.History of the Course:
The beautiful Tasmania Golf Club is situated amidst the panoramic Barilla Bluff and is surrounded by water on three sides forming a spectacular golfing spot.
The Tasmania Golf Course was designed in 1972 by renowned golf architect Mr. Al Howard, who assisted and guided its curator, Ian Grimsey, to create the magnificent course.
The layout of the Tasmania Golf Course comprises of rising and falling fairways, gentle slopes, well chartered bunkers and vast rolling greens. The narrow fairways are lined with trees that are not the only obstacles to the greens; there are also the marshy troughs and craters to provide a formidable challenge, along with the unpredictable link style weather.
Yet all's not that bad; golfers can enjoy the picturesque ocean view and the fresh coastal air, whilst simultaneously playing their favorite game of golf.
The 18 hole Tasmania Golf Course is well structured with its arrangement of par 3's, 4's and 5's, and provides an enjoyable golfing experience for all level of golfers.
Course Trivia:
- In 1999, The Tasmania Golf Course was rated as the best in Tasmania in a survey conducted by the Australian Golf Digest Magazine, for 'Australia's Top 100 Courses.
- The Tasmania Golf Course consists of a natural flora of eucalyptus trees and native shrubs.
- The Tasmania Golf Club is located opposite the promontory, which is perhaps one of the last breeding grounds of the Eastern Rosella; other native birds can also be spotted whilst playing a round of golf.
- The most famous hole to stand out for the Tasmania Golf Course is its third hole of a par5 ; this unique hole provides magnificent views of the waves crashing against the rock face overlooking Barilla Bay. This scenic spot of the course has been compared with the eighteenth hole at Pebble Beach and is one of the most photographed hole in Tasmania.
The Tasmania Golf Club is a semi-private golf course however limited opportunities exist for non-members to play.
As per Australian Top 100 Golf Courses (2006 rankings), the Tasmania has been ranked as No. 45 .
