Royal Canberra Golf Club
The Royal Canberra Golf Club in Yarralumla suburbs, of Australia's Capital Territory (ACT), is considered to be the best inland course of the country.
History of the course:
The foundation stone of the Royal Canberra Golf Club was laid down years ago in 1913. Until1962, the Royal Canberra Golf Club was situated at the Acton course beside the Molonglo River which was then dammed to create a lake. Since then, Westbourne Woods has been the current location of the Royal Canberra golf course.
The Royal Canberra Golf Club was initially designed by James Herd Scott (1945), however, Commander John Harris, in 1962, designed the original layout at Westbourne Woods. He created a unique par 72, 27 hole golf course to challenge the golfing skills of all levels of golfers.
Some of golf's greatest who have played at the Royal Canberra Golf Course, like Lee Trevino, and Greg Norman have praised the course for its unique golfing design created amidst natural beauty.
Course Trivia:
The Royal Canberra Golf Course is set in the scenic botanical gardens of Westbourne Woods, teeming with various species of trees including natural pine forests, birch and cedar along with native Australian trees and shrubs.
