Peninsula (South),VIC

The Peninsula (South) Golf Club is an amazing Championship course of Victoria's famed and elite golfing circle.

History of the Course:

Situated towards the beginning of the famed Mornington Peninsula, the Peninsula Golf Club is itself located within the famous Melbourne Sandbelt area. The Peninsula Golf Club (South Course) is one of the two famous courses belonging to the Peninsula Country Golf Club; the other being its North Course.

Founded in 1924 with only eleven holes, the Peninsula Club extended its course to 27 holes by 1960's. But, a significant move made by the Club, to be recognized in Australia's famed golfing circles, led to the commissioning of renowned architect, Sloan Morpeth in 1967, to develop and modify both its courses; for the South course, Morpeth added 12 new holes to the existing ones.

Then, once again during the period 2004/06, architect Michael Clayton made various modifications that changed the outlook of both the Peninsula Courses.

The par 72, 18 hole Peninsula (South) Course can now be distinguished by its championship size and difficulty; with undulating sandbelt fairways framed by the native gums and tea trees and cleverly planned bunkers, the obstacles are many, but can be overcome with tee accuracy and fine chipping. The course consists of a combination of straight holes as well as dog leg bend holes, and also provides a scenic view from the tee areas of the back nine.

The Peninsula (South) course comprises a well balanced combination of some short par 4 holes (its 1st, 7th and 11 th ); some very long and tougher holes (the 5th, 13th and 17 th ), along with par 3 holes of varying length. The Championship course serves to be a formidable challenge to all standards of golfers.
