The Grange (West) Golf Club is a well known golf course and one of its first in South Australia.
History of the Course:
The Grange (West) Golf Club is one of the two great Championship Golf Courses of The Grange Golf Club, in South Australia.
Although the land was deemed unfit for crop cultivation due to the high sand content in its soil, it formed a perfect spot for a links style golf course to be born. Thus, a golf course was created and a committee formed to see to its maintenance and expansion.
The initial 13 hole rough golf course started play in 1927, but during the war years struggled a bit. The post-war years saw the club acquiring new land from the government and commissioned well known course architect Vern Morcom to design the Grange (West) course in 1956, and in years to come, also its East Course.
The par 72, 6220 metre, Grange (West) Golf Course now comprises of 18 championship holes, along with smooth undulating fairways, fine tee areas and bunkers. The picturesque course offers an enjoyable yet challenging game of golf.
