Iron Sets
Like other golf clubs, irons also have three parts—the shaft, the grip and the head. The loft for irons is generally between 16 and 48 degrees. The lengths of the shaft of irons vary from 36 to 40 inches. Traditionally, the shafts were made from steel. However, to make the iron clubs lighter and easier to handle, currently graphite is being used as the material. The iron club heads are generally solid with an even clubface. In the early days, irons were made only in muscle back design. Currently, two kinds of irons are found— the muscle back irons and cavity back irons.
Two methods are use during the production of iron clubs. These methods are “casting” and “forging”. The cast irons are preferred by the golfers as it is easy to handle them for the stiffness. On the other hand, forged irons are not easy to handle, as they are much more flexible than the cast irons. Callaway, Adams, Cobra, Ping, Nike and Taylor Made are some of the leading companies, who manufacture iron sets.
