Fairway Woods
The no.2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 woods in a golf bag are generally referred to as fairway woods. These are the shorter woods. Fairway woods have thinner head than the drivers. Like the other wood clubs, fairway woods also have three parts—the shaft, the grip and the head. The length of the fairway wood shaft is usually less than 45 inches. The end off the shaft, which is on the opposite side of the head, is called the grip. Grip is wrapped with synthetic leather or rubber, so that the golfers get a better grip on the shaft.
The Fairway wood heads were made from persimmon and maple woods in the earlier days. Currently, the fairway woods are being made from light metals like titanium or graphite. The use of titanium as the material of the golf clubs revolutionized the golf equipments. Some of the leading manufacturers of fairway woods are Cobra, Adams, Snake Eyes, Tommy Armour, ping and Golf Smith.
