Drivers
Driver is the no.1 wood in the golf bag. Driver has the biggest head. The different parts of driver are the shaft, the grip and the head. Generally the shaft of a driver is 45 inches long with 12 millimeter diameter. The grip is covered with a rubber or synthetic leather, which is used to give a better hold on the shaft. The head portion of the driver comes in contact with the golf ball. This is the most important part of the driver.
Earlier, like other wood clubs, the heads of the drivers were also made of persimmon and maple woods. However, with the progression of technology, the material of drivers has also changed to light metals or graphite. At present, even metal like titanium is being used for making drivers. The Callaway Golf Great Big Bertha was the first large collection of titanium woods. Later almost all the leading manufacturers started making woods using the metal. Nike, Cobra, Bridgestone, Wilson, Ping, Founders Club, Snake Eyes and Tour Edge Bazooka are some of the leading manufacturers of drivers.
