Gibraltar Police is also known by the name of Gibraltar Services Police or the GSP. The Gibraltar Services Police or the GSP is a civil police force in this European land which works under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defense. The
Gibraltar Police force was established under the Police Ordinance Laws of Gibraltar. The Chief Superintendent of the Gibraltar Police is usually appointed by the governor of the country.
The Chief Police Officer belonging to the Police of Gibraltar is answerable to the Commander of the British Forces in Gibraltar. The Gibraltar Police force is presently sharing its head quarters with the British Armed Forces' Joint Provost and the Security Unit (JPSU) located at HMS Rooke. This head quarter was set up in the year 2004.
The Gibraltar Police force consists of the following different categories:
- One Chief Superintendent
- Two Chief Inspectors
- Six Inspectors
- Fifteen Sergeants
- One hundred and three Constables
- Sixteen civilian staffs
The Police Force of Gibraltar has a Marine Unit, which was founded in the year 1998. This segment consists of a sergeant and more than twenty constables. This segment is responsible for the defense of the Gibraltar's Royal Navy, the warships as well as the Marine Section of the Royal Gibraltar Police.
