Gibraltar is the only overseas territory of British. Gibraltar though overseas territory of the British, has internal self government which came into effect with 2006 Constitution.As it is the overseas territory of UK the head of the state is Queen Elizabeth II. Gibraltar Governor is the ceremonial head of the State.
The Governor of Gibraltar is appointed by the monarch based on the advice of the British Government.
The Governor of Gibraltar cannot take active participation in the day to day administration of the country. The governor of Gibraltar is the defacto head of the state. Some important functions that the Governor in Gibraltar usually serve:
- Governor appoints the Chief Minister
- Governor is responsible for defense and security
The present Governor in Gibraltar is Lieutenant General Sir Robert Fulton who became the governor in the year of 2006. No female candidate in Gibraltar has been nominated as the Governor of Gibraltar.
The Union Flag defaced with the territory's coat of arms is the own flag of Government of Gibraltar. But at his residence known as "The Convent" the flag of Gibraltar is flown.
