The Military Heritage Centre is located in one of the Batteries of the Rock of Gibraltar. This battery is known by the name of Princess Caroline's Battery. It was constructed in the year of 1732 after the name of the third daughter of King George II.
The Rock of Gibraltar has been the witness to many battles. The Great Siege of 1783 is the most important one. From then onwards, Gibraltar embarked on a journey of developing a well built military defense.
The chambers of the Princess Caroline's Battery were renovated further in the year of 1905. This was to serve as the coastal defense of the 6 inch gun. The original Battery has still got lifting device of the gun besides some gun shells and similar other things. There is an armory in the Military Heritage Centre at Gibraltar that has within its store a number of weapons that were in use in the days of the British Army of Gibraltar.
The Military Heritage Centre of Gibraltar also has got some of the antique pieces belonging to the period of the Great Siege. The Memorial Chamber has been built in the Center to commemorate the people who have laid their lives for the cause of their nation.
At the Military Heritage Centre in Gibraltar one will also come across the Roll Call of the Regiments who have continuously served for Gibraltar. Also, there are the ensigns of the Royal air Force ad the Senior Service Officers.
