The Gibraltar Museum

The Gibraltar Museum has been in existence since 23rd July, 1930. This museum is situated in the center of the city in the ground which was once the residence of the Principal Ordnance Officer. There used to be Moorish Baths of the 14th century in the building's basement area.

The Gibraltar Museum is a storehouse of the rock formation from the Jurassic period to the present day and many other things. After an entry into this museum, there will be a 15 minutes duration movie that will give a history about the formation of this rock. The rock is named as 'The Jurassic Rock'.

There are rooms in the Museum at Gibraltar that shows the connection between the sea and Gibraltar from the pre-historic period to the World War II. One of the greatest attractions of the Gibraltar Museum is the reconstructed Roman Anchor. The model of the Rock kept in the museum gives an opportunity to the visitors to draw a comparison between the 19th century rocks and present rocks.

There is also an art gallery dedicated to Gustavo Bacarisas, the painter. There is even a room as a sign of devotion to The Great Siege of Gibraltar. A cave in the Museum of Gibraltar has some discoveries from pre-history. One of them is the Neanderthal Skull. There are also tools made by the Neanderthals, potteries from the Neolithic to the Carthaginians, 7th century BC Phoenician scarabs and so on. Thus the Museum in Gibraltar is worth a visit.
