Miss Germany is a national beauty pageant of Germany which was held in 1927 for the first time. In the contest, Hildegard Quandt was chosen as the first Miss Germany ever. If considered on the whole, the history of this beauty pageant has witnessed an unusual and rather irregular pattern of events due to a multiplicity of winners in a few years and no national events being held at times. It was in 1928 that two winners namely, Hella Hoffman and Margarete Grow were chosen as Miss Germany for the same year for the first time. Primarily, this happened because of multiple associations organizing Miss Germany beauty pageants which was considered legally valid.
Some of the organizers of this premier event include MGC (Miss Germany Corporation, Oldenburg) owned by Horst Klemmer, the Miss Germany Company, the MGA (Miss Germany Association, Bergheim) owned by Detlef Tursies amongst others. The winners of Miss Germany title represent their country in international beauty pageants like Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Earth, Miss Intercontinental, Queen of the World and Miss Europe. In the years when no Miss Germany event was held, delegates for international events were directly selected from among regional titleholders in Germany.
One of the most interesting developments related to the event took place in 1999 when as many as three Miss Germany were selected by different organizers with a fourth Miss Germany emerging from yet another event held by Model of Germany Productions in Mainz -Kastel. Later, a few more German beauty pageants were launched in and after the year 2000 which include Miss Deutschland event organized from 2000 onwards by MGO, Model of Germany event organized by Model of Germany Productions from 2000 onwards, Miss World Germany, German Miss World and Beauty Queen of Germany organized by MGC apart form other events.
Some of the German beauties to have graced the title in recent years include Miss Shermine Shahrivar who won the coveted title of Miss Europe 2005 after being selected as Miss Germany 2004. In the following year, Asli Bayram was chosen as Miss Germany 2005. She also contested for the title of Miss Universe 2005.
The unconventional dark beauty of Isabelle Knipsel was crowned with the title of Miss Germany 2006 and 18-year old Nelli Marie Bojahr won the prestigious title of Miss Germany 2007 at the event held in Freiburg.
