Germany Genealogy

The Germany Genealogy can be traced back to the Scandinavian ethnic groups of centuries ahead. Like the other European countries, Germany Genealogy can also be traced in the different ethnic groups of the bordering countries that came in contact with the people of Germany during the migration period.

The German people emerged as a southern Scandinavian ethnic group and that further form a part of Germany Genealogy. During the migration period the Germans came in contact with other inhabitants of Scandinavia. They were:

  • Finnic inhabitants residing in the north of the country
  • Balto Slavic people in the east of the country
  • Celts in the south
German Genealogy can also be found in the ethnic groups of the European bordering countries like Gallo Romans and Slavs.

During the middle ages after Christianization Germany expanded under the influence of the Roman Catholic Church and amalgamated with other groups. Many immigrants came to Germany in the ’60s and the ’70s and constitute the non ethnic groups of the country. About 5% of the ethnic groups in German population are also foreign born.

An interest in the genealogy arose in people who wanted to connect their families to the nobility. Various researches on German Genealogy are still conducted to find out their roots.
