German Bank Holidays


Germany Bank Holidays are also considered to be public holidays in Germany. Although these holidays are not legalized from the government, majority of the country's population do not turn up for work on these days. Exceptions are for those employers engaged in essential services like fire, ambulance, police, hospital, or any kind of emergencies, etc. these workers usually receive an extra pay or bonus for their labor on these declared German bank holidays .

German Banks are usually officially closed on days when there is a religious or a public event, like the elections, strikes, festivals, major international trade fairs & sports events. However there is no legal permit to call these days an off period for bank employers. German Bank Holidays can be classified according to the fulfillments of the following criteria:

  • Stock Market places are closed
  • Banks are also closed in other 600 countries and regions
  • Official public holidays are also celebrated in 600 countries worldwide
  • Schools and Educational Institutions are closed
  • Major government and state elections are held
  • An international sports event is held, like World Cup Fain match, etc.
  • A global trade fair or trade show is organized
  • Noteworthy cultural, religious and special events are celebrated (strike, Eclipse, etc.)

Religious Holidays in Germany are usually based on Christianity since majority of the Germans population belong to this sect of religion, either a Catholic or a Protestant.
