Munich, Germany


Munich, Germany also known as München in German, is the capital of German Federal State of Bavaria, of north, and is considered as the third largest German city and most prosperous in Europe. Munich's population is around 1.3 million, which also take into account the Greater Munich Area of Augsburg, Ingolstadt, Rosenheim, Landshut and Landsberg. The city's motto stands to be München mag dich . Under the administrative control of urbane Upper Bavaria district, Munich is just adjacent to River Isar bank at northern Bavarian Alps.

The city of Munich, Germany is situated at elevated plains about 520 m above sea level. The sandy plateau of Northern Alpine Foreland, is made of highly fertile flint area in the north and morainic hills covers the southern part. The Munich land is a mixture of fluvio-glacial and marshy lands at the north.

The continental climate of Munich, Germany is strongly affected due its close proximity to the Alps. It experiences high erratic rainfall throughout the year with few rain storms. The average winter temperature is -2° C and that of summer is 19° C.

The city of Munich, Germany is mainly composed of Christians with 39.5% Catholic and 14.2% Protestant.

Munich is also famous for breweries and the Weißbier or wheat beer. Some brands namely Helles, Pils or the Munich Dark Beer, Starkbier, etc. there is also a special yearly celebration period called the Lenten Starkbierzeit or strong beer time that begins on during St. Joseph's Day.

Well connected Munich, hosts the Franz Josef Strauss International Airport is the main airport, 30 km to the north east of the CBD. Hauptbahnhof is the main railway system that is equipped by magnetic levitation train called Transrapid and runs at speeds of up to 400 km/h. Oberpfaffenhofen Air Station, western Munich is for commercial purposes. Cycling is a good alternative to motorised transport and growing popularity among common man in Germany.
