Berlin, Germany


Berlin, Germany is the capital city of the country that forms the center of Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region. Located in the northeastern part of the country, Berlin is the second most populous city of European Union and fifth largest according to the size. It is also the most leading center of European politics, culture and science.

This internationally recognized metropolitan capital of Germany is the most influential hub of inter-continental transportation, well inter-connected as well as stopover points of many international flights and is the home to the most prominent universities, sporting events, museums and cultural concerts and orchestras. Based on service sectors of of media and life science corporations, convention venues, research institutes, and creative industries, Berlin economy is on the growing tracks ever since the union.

The geography Berlin, Germany is well conversant with shallow river valleys of Berlin-Warsaw Urstromtal area with neighboring Rivers of Spree. At the west, lies Poland, 70 km away from the city center. The low plateau areas beside both the banks of Spree River, is made of different outskirt districts of the city -- Reinickendorf and Pankow on the Barnim plateau, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Tempelhof-Schöneberg, and Neukölln on the Teltow plateau, Spandau overlaps partly within the Berlin Urstromtal region and rest on the Nauen Plains.

The climate is a mixture of a temperate and mesothermal climate, with maximum summer temperature ranging between 16.7 to 17.9 °C, winter ranging from -0.4 to 1.2 °C and annual rainfall around 578 mm.

Berlin, Germany is the heart of many cultural and artistic inventions since history. It is the home for orchestras and theater. There are seven symphony orchestras in Berlin and over 50 theaters established in every corner of the city and has three main opera houses of Deutsche Oper, the Berlin State Opera, and the Komische Oper. The Haus der Kulturen der Welt is famous exhibitions spot that cultures with intercultural issues and hosts world class music and conferences.

Another notable asset of the town is Olympiastadion, which hosts many athletic and sports events.

Berlin has its own football team, the Hertha BSC Berlin, the basketball team called ALBA Berlin and ice-hockey team called the German Ice Hockey League.

The transport is not a matter of hassle in this capital city of Berlin with many railway stations, bus and ferry facilities. S-Bahn is the overground urban railway system whereas the U-Bahn is the underground rail system. The Straßenbahn or the local tramway operates exclusively in the eastern part of Berlin and Buses serves to connect to the outskirt and suburban regions of the metropolitan Berlin.

The busiest airport of Berlin is the Tegel International Airport supported by Berlin Brandenburg International Airport, Tempelhof International Airport and Schönefeld International Airport.
